Katchal - Post tsunami Destruction and Debris 2005

Rough Ride: Few patches of road left along the coastline of katchal. The shops and buildings along the road were missing!. Few coconut trees managed to survive.
Kapanga once a beautiful village of Katchal is now abandoned. Only few monkeys could be seen looking out for edibles. The marked object in the photograph is a state transport Bus upside down inside the jungle
Note the tall coconut trees along the beach, They are are devoid of leaves at top that gives us a fair idea of the height of the waves that swept everything at Katchal.
Once a well populated pocket in Katchal , Kapange is now a deserted place filled with debris. I had to drive to this place everyday to make phone calls using my mobile phone. Katchal Island had no mobile phone tower then in 2005. This part of the Island (Kapanga) is geographically close to Nancowry Island (Nancowry was a privileged with BSNL mobile phone tower). One had to hunt for phone phone signal for a while to make calls !. On unlucky days even after hunting for hours the signals was not available !
