Remote installation Services :
This service can be configured in a Server machine with Microsoft Server 2003 to install operating systems on client computers in a LAN.
Steps :
Prerequisites :
a) The Server must have atleast two drive partitions (volumes). [The idea is to keep the Server OS and the
client OS separate]
b)
The
RIS volume must be NTFS.
c)
The network must use DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory to use this service.
d)
The RIS server must be authorized in Active Directory using the DHCP administrative tool.
[only if there is any other DCHP provider in the LAN]
Remote Installation Service (RIS) can be installed from the "Control Panel" > "Add/Remove Programs" > "Add/Remove Windows Components" in a Machine with Windows Server 2003 as Operation system. The Windows Server 2003 CD may be required during the installation of RIS.
